Climate

Our climate commitment.

RentCharter contributes 0.5% of its revenue to permanent carbon removal through Stripe Climate. Here is what that pays for, why we chose it, and how to check it.

What we contribute

0.5% of every payment RentCharter receives goes to carbon removal. Stripe, our payment provider, takes the contribution automatically and passes the whole amount on without keeping a fee, so it is not a pledge we have to remember to honour.

What it funds

Contributions are pooled with those of other Stripe Climate businesses and spent through Frontier, the advance market commitment Stripe set up to buy permanent carbon removal. Its projects pull carbon dioxide out of the air or the sea and store it for a thousand years or more, and independent experts review each one before a purchase. None of it goes to conventional offsets.

Why we chose it

Cheap offsets often pay for emissions that would have been avoided anyway, or for trees that hold carbon only until they are felled or burn. Permanent removal is the expensive end of climate action, and early buyers are what let those projects scale and bring the price down. A fixed share of revenue is the simplest honest commitment a small business can make: it grows only if we do, and it costs us something.

Stripe publishes a page for every business in the programme. Ours shows our contribution level and the projects the pooled funds have bought from.
